## How do I run my first case in Medrecords AI?

Your first case in Medrecords AI takes 5 steps. You sign up, create the case, upload the records, confirm the case details and then read the chronology. Most of the work is done by the app. You only need to check 2 things: the case type before you start and the key date before the chronology is built.

### Before you start

Have these ready:

- **The records** , as PDF, Word or image files. ZIP files and whole folders work too. See [which files you can upload](https://medrecords.ai/help/tasks/file-types-limits/).
- **The case type** , such as Personal Injury or Nursing Home Neglect. See [choose the right case type](https://medrecords.ai/help/tasks/choose-case-type/).
- **Credits.** Each page you upload costs 1 credit. Duplicate pages are removed first and never charged. See [credits and billing](https://medrecords.ai/help/tasks/credits-billing/).

### Step 1. Sign up

1. Create your account.
2. Read and accept the Terms, the Privacy Notice and the BAA. You accept all 3 before you can upload.
3. Pick your role, such as legal nurse consultant or attorney. It sets which case types show first. See [set your role](https://medrecords.ai/help/tasks/roles/).

Each person needs their own account. Never share a login.

### Step 2. Create the case

1. On the cases list, press **New case** .
2. Type a **Case name** , such as "Smith v. Jones".
3. Pick the **Case type** .
4. Drop your files or folders into the upload box. You can add as many as you like at once.
5. If you want, add **Notes for the reviewer** , such as "Fall on March 3, 2024. Focus on the left hip."

### Step 3. Review and start

1. Press **Review** . Check the file list and the page count.
2. Press **Create case** .

If your balance is too low, a "Not enough credits" box opens. You can buy just the credits you are missing, then press **Create case** again.

Changed your mind? For about 1 minute after you start, you can press **Cancel processing** . Every credit comes back and the files stay.

### Step 4. Confirm the case details

The app reads your records, then stops. The case status changes to **Needs confirming** .

1. Open the case. The **Confirm case details** window opens.
2. Check the case summary, the focus and the body parts.
3. Check the key date. Press **Make primary** on the right one.
4. Press **Confirm and continue** .

Confirming is free. You cannot change the focus or key date later, so take your time. See [confirm the case details](https://medrecords.ai/help/tasks/confirm-case/).

### Step 5. Read the chronology

When the status says **Processed** , the case is ready.

| Where | What you get |
| --- | --- |
| Chronology | Every medical event in date order, each linked to its page |
| Chronological narrative | The case told as a story, with a citation on each sentence |
| Documents index | Every record, sorted by type and provider |
| Missing records | Records that other records mention but you did not upload |
| Q&A | A box to ask questions of the records |

Click any event to see the page it came from. See [read the medical chronology](https://medrecords.ai/help/tasks/chronology/).

### What to do next

- Check the facts you will rely on. See [check any fact against its source page](https://medrecords.ai/help/tasks/verify-source/).
- Make a report in the Report studio. See [create a report](https://medrecords.ai/help/tasks/report-studio/).
- Send your work as PDF or Word. See [export your work](https://medrecords.ai/help/tasks/export/).
