A reference section for people who work in medical records and the law at once. Every value is read from the primary statute or administrative code and quoted with its citation, and anything we cannot confirm against that text is marked unconfirmed rather than filled in from a secondary chart.

What this is

A reference for people who work in medical records and the law at the same time: plaintiff and defense attorneys, IME and QME physicians, legal nurse consultants, adjusters and third party administrators, life care planners and testifying experts.

Each legal value is read from the primary statute or administrative code. The page quotes the operative sentence with its citation and a link to the source. If a value cannot be confirmed against that text, the cell says so and no number is printed in its place.

What is covered

45 of 50 states are read so far. Hospital periods are confirmed for 40, physician practice periods for 11, and both for 6.

How we source it

• ›Values come from the statute or administrative code text, read directly.
• ›The operative sentence is quoted on the page with its citation and a link, so you can check the reading rather than trust it.
• ›Secondary charts are used only to find a candidate citation. Their numbers are not published here, because checks found several of the most-cited ones wrong.
• ›Anything unconfirmed is marked unconfirmed. It is not filled in from a chart.
• ›Each page carries the date it was reviewed. These were reviewed 2026-09-09.
