Personal injury case management software for lawyers: 10 options compared

The best case management software for lawyers in personal injury is a PI-built system: CasePeer, Neos, SmartAdvocate, CloudLex, Filevine or Litify. Clio, MyCase, PracticePanther and Smokeball are general platforms that also handle PI. CasePeer, Neos, MyCase and PracticePanther publish full price lists. Medrecords AI is not a CMS; it reads the medical records.

We read each vendor's own pricing, personal injury and security pages on 2 Nov 2026 and wrote down what they publish: price, records features, and any SOC 2 or business associate agreement (BAA) statement. Where a vendor does not publish a figure, the table says so. None of these vendors pays us to be listed.

Medrecords AI sits at the end of the list for a reason. It is a medical records review tool, not a case management system, and it has no Filevine, Clio or CasePeer integration. It belongs next to whichever system you pick.

What is the best personal injury case management software?

It depends on firm size. CasePeer and Neos publish per-user prices and are built only for PI. Filevine and Litify suit larger firms that can fund customization. SmartAdvocate offers a server-based option, and CloudLex adds paralegal services.

Short answer: which should you choose?

  • Choose a PI-only system (CasePeer, Neos, SmartAdvocate or CloudLex) if most of your matters are injury cases and you want liens, treatment and statute alerts built in.
  • Choose Filevine or Litify if you run high case volume and can pay for setup and customization.
  • Choose Clio, MyCase, PracticePanther or Smokeball if personal injury is 1 practice area among several.
  • Add Medrecords AI if the slow step is reading the medical records, whatever system holds the case.

What case management software does for a PI firm

Case management software holds the matter: the client, the deadlines, the statute of limitations, the providers, the bills, the liens and the documents. PI-built systems add treatment tracking, lien and letter of protection tracking, and a settlement screen that shows the client's net.

The medical records themselves are a separate job. Most systems on this list store the records and track who still owes them. Some now draft AI summaries. Ask each vendor whether every fact in the summary links to its source page, because that is what you check before a demand goes out.

Case managementMatters, deadlines, statute alerts, tasks, documents, providers and liens.
Practice managementBilling, trust accounting and time. General platforms bundle this with case management.
Intake and CRMLeads, follow-up and signed engagement agreements, before a matter exists.
Records reviewReading the medical records and turning them into a chronology, summary or demand.

The tools, in detail

Order: PI-only case management first, then general platforms with PI features, then the 2 tools that sit beside a CMS. This is not a quality score. We did not run these products; every figure is what the vendor publishes on its own page, read on 2 Nov 2026.

Medical records review, not case management

#12

Medrecords AI

Best for The medical records step, next to any system above

Medrecords AI is not a case management system. You upload a file of medical records, it drafts the chronology, summary or demand with every line linked to its source page, and you file the result in your CMS.

Speed: 100 pages per minuteSecurity: SOC 2 and HIPAA compliant; signs a BAAIntegrations: None with a CMS; export to Word or PDF

What it does for PI

  • Every chronology line links to its source page
  • Duplicate pages removed before review
  • Works next to any system on this list, because the output is a file

Check before you buy

  • No case, calendar, billing or lien management
  • No Filevine, Clio or CasePeer integration, so you upload and download files
See the chronology →

Where Medrecords AI fits beside your case management system

Your CMS tracks the case. Someone still has to read the 1,500 pages of records that arrive in it. Medrecords AI reads the file at 100 pages per minute, removes duplicate pages, and drafts a chronology in which every line links to its source page. You review, you revise, you sign.

There is no integration to set up and nothing to migrate. You download the chronology, summary or demand draft as a Word or PDF file and attach it to the matter in Filevine, Clio, CasePeer or any other system. First case is free on us.

HIPAA compliant case management software: what to ask

A PI firm stores medical records, so the vendor handles protected health information on your behalf. Ask for 2 documents before you upload a file: the vendor's latest SOC 2 Type II report, and a signed business associate agreement, which 45 CFR 164.504(e) requires. A "HIPAA compliant" line on a website is not a BAA.

Read whose report it is. On the pages we read, Smokeball and CloudLex cite the SOC 2 reports of their cloud hosts (AWS and Azure), and SmartAdvocate does not say which report type it holds. Clio and Filevine state a SOC 2 Type II audit, and Clio states a BAA is available.

How to choose personal injury case management software

  1. Decide PI-only or generalIf 80% of your matters are injury cases, a PI-built system saves you from building lien and treatment tracking yourself.
  2. Price the whole stackMultiply the per-user price by your headcount, then add the AI tier, e-signature, intake and records retrieval.
  3. Ask for the SOC 2 report and a BAAGet both in writing before any medical record goes in.
  4. Check how records arriveAsk which retrieval services deliver straight into the case file, and who pays for them.
  5. Test with 1 closed caseLoad a settled file and see whether the system shows treatment, bills, liens and the client net correctly.
  6. Confirm you can leaveAsk how you export your matters and documents if you switch later.

Case management software for lawyers: common questions

What is the best case management software for lawyers?

For personal injury, a PI-built system such as CasePeer, Neos, SmartAdvocate, CloudLex, Filevine or Litify. For a mixed practice, a general platform such as Clio, MyCase, PracticePanther or Smokeball. Pick on case volume, budget and how much PI tracking you need built in.

What is the best personal injury case management software?

It depends on firm size. CasePeer and Neos publish per-user prices and are built only for PI. Filevine and Litify suit larger firms that can fund customization. SmartAdvocate offers a server-based option, and CloudLex adds paralegal services.

How much does legal case management software cost?

Published prices on 2 Nov 2026 ran from $49 per user per month (Clio Starter, and PracticePanther Solo billed annually) to $160 per user per month (CasePeer Advanced). Filevine, Litify, SmartAdvocate, CloudLex, Smokeball and Lawmatics quote prices only.

Is case management software HIPAA compliant?

Some vendors state HIPAA support, but a website claim is not enough. Ask for the vendor's SOC 2 Type II report and a signed business associate agreement before you upload medical records. On the pages we read, only Clio stated that a BAA is available.

Does Filevine integrate with Medrecords AI?

No. Medrecords AI has no Filevine integration and no integration with any other case management system. You upload records to Medrecords AI, download the chronology or demand draft as a Word or PDF file, and attach it to the Filevine matter.

What is the difference between case management and practice management software?

Case management tracks the matter: deadlines, documents, providers and liens. Practice management adds the business side: billing, time and trust accounting. General platforms such as Clio and MyCase bundle both, while PI-only systems focus on the case.

Keep your CMS. Send the records to Medrecords AI.

Upload a file you already hold and get a chronology with every line linked to its source page. First case is free on us.
