Understand the words used in Medrecords AI
This page explains the words you see in Medrecords AI, in plain terms. Each entry says what the word means in the app. The words are grouped by when you first meet them. That is when you set up a case, when you read the records, and when you write reports. Each link opens step by step help.

Setting up a case
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Case | A case holds the records you upload, the chronology built from them, and anything you make from it |
| Case type | Sets which facts the app pulls out, what you check, and which reports it offers |
| Your work (role) | Puts the case types you use most at the top of the list. It does not limit what you can do. See set your role |
| Key date | The date the case turns on, such as the date of injury. Its name changes with the case type |
| Area of focus | What the case is about. Some case types call it something else, such as "Allegation Focus" |
| Needs confirming | The case waits for you to check the focus and key date. See confirm the case |
| Credits | What you pay with. A page costs 1 credit. Your balance and history are under billing and credits |
| BAA | Business Associate Agreement. You accept it when you sign up |
Cleaning up the file
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Duplicate pages | Repeated pages taken out before reading. Their credits come back. See duplicate pages |
| Cover pages | Order sheets from a record retrieval service. You can leave them out |
| Custodian pages | Signed notes from the place that holds the records. You can leave them out too |
| Bates number | The page stamp from the production. Pages keep their Bates numbers even when you exclude or strip them |
| Missing records | Records your documents mention that are not in the file. See missing records |
| Exclude | Takes a record or entry out of the chronology, Q&A and exports. Nothing is deleted |
Reading the records
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Documents Index | The list of records in the case |
| Chronologies Index | The list of dated events found in the records |
| Chronology type | "Medical" hides legal records. "Medical-Legal" shows all of them |
| Pre-Event, Key Event, Post-Event | Timeline groups before, on and after the key date |
| Relevance | How much a record matters to the case, from high to none |
| Verbatim abstract | The exact words from the record, never reworded |
| Page text | The text the app read from a page. You can copy it |
| Flag | A tag you create and put on a page, such as "Pre-existing" |

|---|---|
| Q&A | Ask questions about the case. Answers cite the pages they come from |
| Narrative | The case told as a story in date order, with a citation on each sentence |

| Template | The layout and sections a report follows |
