What a med mal case turns on
Most med mal files come down to a few questions. What was the key event? What care came in the hours around it? Were test results seen and acted on? Did the harm follow from the care?
Medrecords AI is set up for these questions. When you ask about a Medical Malpractice case, the assistant looks at the key event, the hour by hour care around it, and whether results were acknowledged and acted on. It treats causation as a separate question.
The path through a case
Work through these 7 pages in order. Each one takes a single step.
- Set up the case and pick its focus. Choose the case type and confirm the details.
- Pick the records to upload. Learn which parts of a chart are often left out.
- Find records that are referenced but not produced. Work the missing records list.
- Find delays between abnormal results and action. Trace each result to the response.
- Write the standard of care, causation and merit reports. Prepare drafts for your expert.
- Follow a fictional worked example. See the steps on a missed lab result.
- Read the med mal questions and answers. Late entries, audit trails and affidavits of merit.

What it does not do
Medrecords AI states what the records say, with a page citation for each fact. It does not decide whether care fell below the standard of care. That is your expert's call.
It also does not read EHR audit trails or metadata. An audit trail is the system log of who opened or changed the chart, and when. Request it from the provider on its own. Our guide on EHR audit trails in medical malpractice explains what to ask for.
It gives no deadlines or filing rules for any state. Check those with counsel.
Birth injury cases
There is no separate birth injury case type. A birth injury file runs as Medical Malpractice. The steps on these pages apply.
Medrecords AI organizes and cites the records. Its output is not a medical or legal opinion and does not replace your expert.
