Choose the right case type in Medrecords AI
Medrecords AI has 11 case types. Pick the one that matches the legal question your file has to answer, not the injury itself. The case type decides which extra details the app asks for, which reports start pre-selected, and how the case assistant frames its answers. You can still add other reports later.

The 11 case types at a glance
Every case type asks for the forum state, which is where the matter is filed. That is not always where the treatment happened. The app uses it to pick the right rules, such as the AMA Guides edition, the certificate of merit statute or the no-fault rules.
| Case type | Extra details the app asks for | Reports pre-selected |
|---|---|---|
| Personal Injury | None | Record Review, Causation Analysis, Damages Summary |
| Medical Malpractice | None | Record Review, Standard of Care Analysis, Causation Analysis |
| Workers' Compensation | None | Record Review, Workers' Compensation Report, Causation Analysis, Pre-existing Condition Analysis |
| Nursing Home Neglect | Facility, admission period, incident type | Record Review, Standard of Care Analysis, Damages Summary |
| Forensic Psychiatric | Evaluee | Record Review |
| Veteran Disability | Branch of service, service dates, theory of service connection | Record Review, Causation Analysis |
| Social Security Disability | Claim type, date last insured, application date, claim stage and more | Record Review |
| Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) | Claimant's role, type of collision, restraint use, air bag, transport, property damage, police report number, coverage | Record Review, Causation Analysis, Damages Summary |
| Jail & Prison Medical Neglect | Facility, period in custody, custody status | Record Review, Standard of Care Analysis, Causation Analysis |
| Institutional Abuse & Assault | Institution, period of abuse, relationship to the survivor | Record Review, Psychological Injury Evaluation, Damages Summary |
| Mass Tort & Product Liability | Product, exposure period, MDL docket | Record Review, Causation Analysis, Damages Summary |
How to pick in 3 steps
- Ask what the file has to prove. The picker groups the types into 3 families, and each family asks its own question.
- Pick the family. Liability and damages asks who is at fault and what the harm is worth. Work and benefits asks if this person can work and what they are owed. Forensic evaluation asks about a person's mental or functional state in legal terms.
- Pick the type inside that family that names your setting. A fall in a care home is Nursing Home Neglect, not Personal Injury, because the facility fields and the standard of care report fit the case.
Cases that do not have their own type
- Birth injury. There is no birth injury case type. Use Medical Malpractice. Its pre-selected reports already cover the standard of care and causation. Our birth injury record review page explains which records to collect.
- Car crash. Use Motor Vehicle Accident rather than Personal Injury. It keeps the crash facts in their own fields, so the reports can test the injuries against how the crash happened.
- VA disability claim. Use Veteran Disability. Pick the theory of service connection: direct, secondary, presumptive or aggravation. The theory decides what the records need to show. See how to read a VA C-file.
- Mass tort. Use Mass Tort & Product Liability and create 1 case for each claimant. Product names and lot numbers are quoted exactly as the records print them.
- Nursing home. Pick the incident type that matches the harm: fall, pressure ulcer, medication, dehydration or malnutrition, elopement, abuse, infection or other.
What pre-selected reports cost
Creating a case charges credits for the pages you upload, and nothing else. A report is charged only when you confirm it. So the pre-selected reports are a starting point. Remove any you do not need before you confirm. Before you upload, check which files you can add. Every case type can also add Missing Records & Gap Analysis and Case Strengths & Weaknesses.
