Review a birth injury case in Medrecords AI
In Medrecords AI, set up a birth injury file as a Medical Malpractice case with the mother's and baby's records together. There is no birth injury case type. The app has no special logic for Apgar scores, fetal monitor strips or cord gases. You find those facts yourself with search, the timeline and questions that cite pages.

What exists and what does not
Here is the plain picture before you start.
| Task | What the app gives you | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| Case type | Medical Malpractice, with its own reports | There is no birth injury type |
| Mother and baby | 1 case can hold both sets of records | There is no field that marks a record as the mother's or the baby's |
| Labor and delivery facts | Search, the timeline, filters and Q&A with page cites | It does not pull out Apgar scores, strip findings or cord gas values on its own |
| Fetal monitor strips | Pages you upload are stored and searchable as text | It does not read the tracing line on a strip |
| Missing records | A list of records that other records mention | It does not know about a record nothing points to |
| Reports | Record Review, Standard of Care Analysis, Causation Analysis and more | It does not give a medical or legal opinion |
The playbook, step by step
Work through these pages in order. Each one is short.
- Set up the case. Pick Medical Malpractice and load both sets of records.
- Choose which records to upload. Prenatal, labor and delivery, newborn and NICU records, in a sensible order.
- Check for missing records. Look for gaps in strips, medication records and NICU notes.
- Find the key labor facts. Use search, the timeline and Q&A to list Pitocin changes, heart rate drops and Apgar scores with page cites.
- Pick your reports. Record Review, Standard of Care Analysis and Causation Analysis start pre-selected.
- Read a worked example. A made-up case from upload to the packet for an expert.
- Read the common questions. Short answers on strips, images and dates.
Words used in this playbook
- L&D means labor and delivery.
- NICU is the newborn intensive care unit.
- EFM is electronic fetal monitoring. Its paper or screen output is the strip.
- Apgar is a score from 0 to 10 given to a newborn, often at 1 and 5 minutes.
- Cord gas is a blood test from the umbilical cord at birth.
- MAR is the medication administration record. It shows when each drug was given.
- HIE is a brain injury from too little oxygen or blood flow around birth.
More terms are in the glossary.
Before you start
- Each person needs their own account. Cases belong to the person who made them. There is no case sharing today.
- Creating a case charges credits for the pages you upload. See which files you can upload.
- Medrecords AI is HIPAA compliant and SOC 2. See security and HIPAA.
For background on these files, read our guide on HIE and birth injury medical records.
Medrecords AI organizes and cites the records. Its output is not a medical or legal opinion and does not replace your expert.
