Check timing from first use to diagnosis, and other causes

To check timing in a mass tort case, use the Medrecords AI timeline to find the first record of use, the last record of use and the first record of the injury. Then use search and Q&A to find other documented causes. The app shows you the pages. You and your expert judge what the timing means.

The 3 dates to find

DateWhat to look for
First useThe first fill, prescription, dose or implant surgery
Last useThe last fill or dose, or the removal surgery
First sign of injuryThe first note, test or scan that names the claimed injury

Exposure is a period with a start record and an end record. Write down the page for each date. You will need them for the report.

Find the dates on the timeline

  1. Open the case and press Timeline.
  2. Pick Chronologies Index to see every dated event.
  3. Press Filters and set a date range around the exposure period.
  4. Use the search box with Exact mode and the product name.
  5. Click an event. The source page opens with the quote highlighted.

You can also step through the case with Date by date and press Next date to move on. The month strip shows how many events fall in each month. See read the medical chronology.

Check the Undated Documents button too. An undated pharmacy printout can still hold a fill date inside it.

Ask Q&A about timing

Q&A answers carry numbered page citations. Try questions like these:

  • "When is the first record that the claimant used the product? Quote the page."
  • "When is the last record of use?"
  • "When is the first record of the claimed injury?"
  • "Was the injury, or a sign of it, recorded before first use?"

Click each citation and read the page. Do not rely on a date until you have seen it. See check any fact against its source page.

Find other documented causes

A defense expert will look for anything else that could explain the injury. Find it first. On a mass tort case, Q&A is told to report other documented causes as readily as facts that support the claim.

  • Ask: "What other conditions, drugs or events in the records could relate to the claimed injury?"
  • Ask: "What did the claimant's history say before first use?"
  • Search with Keywords for terms such as "history", "prior" or a condition name. Add up to 6 keywords, each in its own colour.
  • Use the Provider filter to read 1 doctor's notes from start to end.

Flag each page you find, for example with a flag called "Other cause". See add flags, highlights and notes.

What the app will not do

The app does not say the product caused the harm. It does not judge whether the timing is close enough. It finds the pages and quotes them. The Causation Analysis report puts these facts in one place, with sections for onset and timing, and findings that point elsewhere. See which report to write.

Medrecords AI organizes and cites the records. Its output is not a medical or legal opinion and does not replace your expert.
